Meghan S. Burnett, age 18, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Born in Melrose on November 10, 1999 she was the beloved daughter of Robert J Burnett and Ellen C. Moschella.
Meghan was raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 2018. She was an avid softball player, a 3-year starter for the WHS Varsity team, multiple times named a middlesex league all-star and was selected as one of the 2017 Boston Herald Pre-Season players to watch. She enjoyed the sport so much that she trained year-round at Planet Fastpitch, played on the Northeast Hurricanes tournament team through the summer, and often ran pitching clinics and gave private lessons on the side. She planned to continue her softball career in college as she was set to attend Saint Michael's College in Vermont this fall. As an active student, Meghan was a trumpet Section Leader in the marching band and played the viola, was selected as a two-year Diversity Leader, was a member of the National Honor Society, and was also a member of the founding class of the Tri-M Honor Society. She loved to travel and really enjoyed the marching band's trip to Disney World in 2017. This spring she participated in the WHS Swiss Exchange program, which she referred to as "the best experience of her life." Meghan held a special love for figure skating. She also enjoyed attending the Annual World Softball Coaches Convention, as well as her Marching Band competitions every weekend in the fall, performing in concerts, hiking, taking pictures, and going to the beach, but above all she loved spending time with her friends, family, and the family dog, Sophie.
She and her smile will be deeply missed by all. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving sister, Mary Kate Burnett of Wakefield. Meghan was also the cherished niece of Anne Moschella and her husband Simon Cantu of NH, Michael Moschella of Medfield, Frances "Franny" Benedetto of Wakefield, David R. Burnett of AZ, Dr.'s Paul and Carole Burnett of MD, Joan Moret and her husband Fred of CA, and Andrew Burnett and his wife Deveda of Beverly.
