New Space at WMHS to be dedicated to Meghan Burnett

Updated: Feb 18, 2019

In the WMHS yearbook, Meghan S. Burnett, class of 2018, chose the following quote for her senior portrait biography:

“Strength doesn’t come from what you can do,

it comes from overcoming the things

you once thought you couldn’t.”

Meghan was a shining light in our school. She was involved in many activities in our community- from the marching band to softball to being a Diversity Leader - just to name a few. Meghan lived her life with a sense of profound wonder and a dedication to making a difference in the world. It is with this sentiment that we hope to dedicate the WMHS Library Makerspace in her honor.

As part of the Diversity Leader class, Meghan regularly used this space to help prepare for Diversity visits and ADL conferences. Makerspaces are places where students can create, discover, improve, plan, change, and make a difference in their school community and the world around them. We cannot possibly think of a more positive example of a “maker” than Meghan due to her dedication to inquiry and service.

The Diversity Leaders have been looking for ways to honor Meghan’s legacy and we hope that this might be a project that brings them joy and peace in her loss.
